Today, we’re going to attempt something tough: to get you excited about wanting to exercise regularly :O
But this article isn’t what you expect.
Most articles try to convince you by giving huge lists about the infinite benefits of exercise.
You can easily find lists of 10 to 100+ benefits of exercise in short bullet points, like:
- More energy
- Healthier skin
- Healthier heart
- Fend off disease
- And on and on…
But you already know the basic benefits, so why do only 20.3% of people meet the U.S. recommended minimums for exercise?
That’s right, only 20.3% of adults ages 18+ actually meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity (CDC FastStats).
That’s only 1 in 5 people.
And if you think that the percentage is low because the guidelines are hard to meet, here they are:
- 75 minutes of aerobic activities per week
- Plus 2 days of muscle-strengthening exercises (which you can do in as little as 10 minutes each day)
That’s 15 minutes a day of aerobic activities for 5 days plus 20 minutes of muscle-strengthening per week.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely spend more time eating dinner every night than that!
When you break it down and have a plan, it isn’t hard to reach.
Anyone can do it, but they don’t. So, I’m forced to accept the fact that the current information out there about why should exercise just isn’t cutting it.
So, let’s take a unique approach and make sure you’re in the top 20.3% of people who have taken control of their health!
We’ll cut through the information overload about reasons why you should exercise and attempt to motivate you using only 3 huge and life changing benefits instead.
Life-Changing Benefit #1
You will feel better in every sense of the word “better”.
- You’ll have less aches and pains (dare I say no aches and pains!).
- You’ll feel lighter on your feet and more energetic.
- You’ll be more clear-headed and able to think on a higher level.
The daily haze of feeling tired will lift and you’ll feel more alive.
And you can start enjoying most of these benefits immediately since going from no exercise, to just moving (even just walking) a little bit, can bring huge changes, quickly!
Don’t delay your chance to enjoy these benefits; start now to feel tremendously better immediately!
If you’re ready to start right NOW, I challenge you to do some squats while you finish reading this article 😉
Life-Changing Benefit #2
Your body will feel more capable.
You’ll become stronger and your body will be able to work harder.
Meaning that the stairs, carrying groceries, walking long distances, and even jogging will be way easier for you.
You’ll be more resilient to stress and go through your day with more ease.
You’ll have the energy after work to do the things you love, like:
- Hang out with your friends
- Enjoy date nights
- Stay up late
And anything else that makes you happy!
You’ll be able to keep up with your kids or grandkids when they’re playing and not need to worry about missing out on the fun times.
You’ll never need to limit what you do because of what your body isn’t capable of.
Your body can do anything you want it to do, if you treat it right.
You won’t have to worry about decreased balance, bone density, strength, and the risk of life-threatening injuries that can come with these.
Tasks, and your overall life, will be easier and your body will thank you in the long run (a “longer” run since you will live longer also!).
These benefits will take a little bit of work, but if you’re doing your squats while reading, you’re already on your way! High five!
Life-Changing Benefit #3
Your quality of life will increase.
All the benefits above, along with every other benefit to staying physically active that I didn’t list here, combine to make an enormous impact on your quality of life.
By feeling better and having a body capable of wonders, what would you do?
Actually, what wouldn’t you do??
Well, you wouldn’t have to worry about struggling to maintain your health or having to take advantage of your prime years.
You wouldn’t have to fill your days with work, then be too tired to do anything else and have to take the night off…every night until retirement.
You wouldn’t have to miss out on enjoying quality time with your kids while they’re young because you can’t keep up.
And you wouldn’t have to fight off medical conditions by taking tens of pills each day just to function.
Instead, you would enjoy every day you have, full of health, vitality, youthfulness, and life.
Can you imagine what your life would be like?
I hope you see the tremendous benefits you can have by exercising and that you feel motivated to live your best life.
You only have one life to live, and one body to live it in, so make them count!
Now, just a couple closing thoughts in case you have any lingering concerns on your mind:
If you think the minimum amount of exercise needed to start feeling better is too much for your lifestyle or more than you’re willing to do, you should know that you will never find out how low the bar really is until you try.
To get an idea about how easy it can be, spend an extra 9 minutes and 18 seconds of your day to watch the video below, made by an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health (among many other distinctions), called:
